10 Great Places to get a Slice in Buffalo
By Stephanie Kennedy
Pizza is an all-time classic. Whether you’re eating a slice for lunch, a whole pie for dinner, or sharing with some friends, it is a go-to whenever you’re craving something delicious and easy. However, not every pie or place is the same. We know there are a million different kinds all over the United States, so I decided to focus on my own home town of Buffalo. I asked a couple of fellow Buffalonians about their favorite go-to places in and around the area. I made sure to include Buffalonians from the north and south towns. Here’s a list of the top ten great places, in no particular order, to get a slice in Buffalo, NY.
First on the list is Santora’s is in Depew. Located at 3440 Transit Rd in Depew. Santora’s Drive-In belongs to the family of locations with the name Santora’s. They claim to be Buffalo’s original family-owned places since 1927. You can find other Santora’s restaurants spots up and down Transit Rd.
This next place is a hidden gem in South Buffalo. Located at 1035 Abbott Rd, Buffalo, NY 14220, Imperial Pizza is known for its thick crust and its takeout, and small joint feel.
Another small pizza joint is located in the Transitowne plaza at 8065 Main St, Buffalo, NY 14221. Pesci’s is a much-loved pizza place for many Clarence families and, if you went to Clarence schools, you might have seen some friends or classmates working there. With great deals during the Football season, Pesci’s Pizza & Wings isn’t one to disappoint.
Located in Niagara Falls, Buzzy’s is an Italian-Cuisine joint offering traditional New York Style. Whether you eat in or take out, Buzzy’s takes pride in their sauce and their signature “thin”crust. They are located at 7617 Niagara Falls Blvd, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
Elmwood in North Buffalo always has great food to offer. This includes our next place on the list, Mister Pizza. Located at 1065 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14222, This place has the small place, big flavor ambiance that seems to communicate it’s all made right here. With well-topped pies and many other offerings, it is a popular choice.
A traditional, order-at-the-counter place, this West Seneca location doesn’t just have great food, but nice people working there as well. Management does a great job of making you feel well taken care of and well fed. This place is located at 444 Borden Rd, West Seneca, NY 14224.
Lock City has also made the list. Not only was it suggested to me twice, but it’s another place in the North towns that is tucked away. It is located at 379 Davison Rd, Lockport, NY 14094, so get that on you GPS and don’t miss it.
If you’ve ever been to Depew High School, you’ll notice a place right across the street, Grosso’s is well-known to Depew natives. It is a terrific place to get pizza and even some Italian dishes, while you’re at it. They are located at 5202 Transit Rd, Depew, NY 14043.
Straying a bit from the very casual pizza joints in Buffalo, we’re heading over to Rocco’s Wood-Fired. There is nothing like the flavor of the wood fire oven. They also offer oven-baked wings, and more atmosphere than some places. Rocco’s is the type of place you can go, have a drink, and share a pizza and some wings with friends during the week. It is located at 5433 Transit Rd, Buffalo, NY 14221.
10. La Nova Pizzeia
Last, but certainly not least, La Nova. Well known and famous for having great pies in Buffalo, La Nova is the “Official” choice for the Buffalo Sabers, the Buffalo Bills, and even the Buffalo Bison. It’s “where western New Yorkers go to get pizza and wings!” With a tradition that started in 1957, La Nova has arguably become Buffalo’s most well-known spot for pie. They are located at 371 West Ferry Street, Buffalo, NY 14213. They also have a location in Williamsville.
So whether it’s a convenient little order out joint or a nice, sit-down place, you will always be able to find great slices in Buffalo. Some of the places might be considered a “best kept secret,” so thank you to all of my fellow Buffalo natives for helping out with this list and showing the world where the good stuff is in and around the Queen City.
